Sri Rama Navami is the auspicious appearance day of Lord Sri Ramachandra. Sri Ramachandra appeared in the month of Chaitra.
The day of Lord Sri Ramachandra’s auspicious appearance is known as Sri Rama Navami. Every year on the ninth day of the growing moon (Chaitra Masa, Shukla Paksha, Navami Tithi), in the month of Chaitra (March–April), Sri Ramachandra made his appearance. This day is commemorated as Sri Rama Navami.
Sri Ramachandra manifested himself as the son of Dasharatha, the Ayodhya king, who belonged to the Maharaja Ikshvaku (Raghu vamsha) dynasty. Dasharatha had no offspring despite having three wives: Kaikeyi, Sumitra, and Kaushalya. Following Maharishi Vashishtha’s guidance, the king conducted a Putra Kameshti Yajna. The three spouses thus became pregnant with sons. Rama was born of Kaushalya, and Bharata was born of Kaikeyi. Lakshmana and Shatrughna are the twins that Sumitra gave birth to.
Sri Rama Navami Celebrations
Throughout the day, devotees fast and recite Sri Rama’s holy names or read passages from the Ramayana as a way of remembering Him. At dusk, they break their fast. Rama Navami Vrata is another something you can do at home.
Rama and Lakshmana are the deities of Sri Sri Krishna Balarama that are adorned. This unique alankara occurs just once a year. The cowherd lads of Vrindavana, Sri Sri Krishna Balarama, take regal clothes and manifest as the princes of Ayodhya, carrying bows and arrows.
The Sri Sri Radha Krishnachandra utsava Deities are dressed like Sita Rama and paraded about the temple in the evening. Worshippers chant the titles of Lord Rama and sing of His glory. Devotees recite Sri Rama Ashtottara Shata Nama as part of Rama Taraka Homa after the procession.
